I’m Maru Valdes, a communications professional with over two decades of experience in hospitality and strategic public relations. As the founder and CEO of MV COLLECTIVE, a boutique PR firm in Washington, D.C., I’m passionate about crafting impactful stories that amplify voices and inspire action.
My journey includes leading communications for Save the Children and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), developing global conservation strategies, and spearheading efforts for ThinkFoodGroup, the company behind Chef José Andrés’ acclaimed hospitality and humanitarian initiatives. Recently, I was honored to receive the Latina Entrepreneur of the Year award from Latino Magazine.

Our adventure kicked off with Maru Valdes, a powerhouse who served as the in-house publicist for the legendary Chef José Andrés. Together, we launched the PR and communications for his game-changing nonprofit, World Central Kitchen, making a global impact one meal at a time.
We’ve partnered with dozens of top-notch Washington, D.C. restaurants, including Michelin-starred gems, trendy lifestyle brands, and world-renowned nonprofits such as The World Bank, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and Save the Children. Additionally, we collaborate with esteemed brand contractors like Leading DC and work alongside world-class photographers like Rey Lopez to ensure exceptional quality in all our projects.
But we’re not just about business – we’re deeply rooted in the community! Our leadership shines through roles with the Smithsonian’s American History Museum Kitchen Cabinet, the Committee for Chefs for Equality, and as proud members of Les Dames d’Escoffier.
